For a family observing a lagan, the chosen ceremony time needs to be clear before the rest of the wedding timetable is fixed. Ask the person guiding the ceremony what that time refers to and what must be ready beforehand.
This guide does not give auspicious dates or say that every family follows the same practice. It explains how to plan around the timing your family has agreed.
Confirm the time and the meaning
Write down the date and time with the ceremony guide. Ask which part of the ceremony it applies to. Check any calendar details with the people responsible rather than using an unchecked online list.
Share one written version with both families. If there is a correction, replace the old version so suppliers do not keep using it.
Work back from what must be ready
List the people, clothing, items and space needed before the ceremony begins. Ask when the mandap or room must be ready for a check.
Keep setup and guest arrival separate on the timetable. A room should not still be full of setup work when the family needs it for the ceremony.
Plan the janti journey if needed
If a janti is part of the day, agree departure and arrival with both sides. Include the welcome and any waiting time before the next step.
Check the journey with the transport team. Do not fill the whole gap with an exact travel estimate that leaves no room for normal delays.
Talk to the photographer and kitchen
Tell the photographer which ceremony timing is fixed. Plan portraits and group pictures around it, rather than assuming they can delay the main programme.
Tell the kitchen when guests may need water, refreshments or a meal. Ask how a change in the programme should be reported.
Give changes one clear route
Choose a family contact for the full day. Ceremony questions should go to the ceremony guide, while transport and setup questions go to their own leads.
Before the event, read the plan together. Clear timing helps everyone prepare, while the family's chosen practice and the person guiding it remain the source for the ceremony itself.
